LaVonne "Vonnie" Darlene Olson

LaVonne “Vonnie” Darlene Olson, 92, of Amarillo, passed away peacefully at her home Monday, March 5, 2018. Graveside services will be 3:00 pm Thursday at Llano Cemetery with Pastor Barry Loving of First Christian Church officiating. Vonnie was born August 30, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa to Roy E. and Belva (Remore) Cracraft. She attended school in Des Moines and graduated from North High School, where she sang in music programs accompanied by a classmate who would later become known as Roger Williams. While working in Des Moines for Meredith Publishing Company after WWII, Vonnie was introduced to Clarence “Clance” Olson. They married on August 31, 1949 and remained in Des Moines until Clarence graduated from Iowa State University. Careers took Vonnie and Clarence around Iowa to Davenport, back to Des Moines, Bettendorf, and finally in 1974 to St. Joseph, MO where they spent 41 years. Vonnie worked for American Family Insurance regional office in software and agent education, until retirement in 1995. She was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church. The couple moved to Amarillo in 2015 to be closer to their son and daughter in law. Vonnie enjoyed singing, dancing, and the success of her children and grandson. Survivors that are left to cherish her memory are her husband of 68 years Clarence Olson; three children, Janet Stern and husband Dale of Rockford, Iowa, Judith Kay Olson of Iowa City, Iowa, Dennis Olson and wife Denise of Amarillo; one grandson, Derek Olson of Orono, Maine; one sister in law, Betty Cracraft; and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Loren Cracraft.
