Larry Don Nipper
August 2, 1959 - May 8, 2017

Larry was born on August 2, 1959 in Amarillo to Fred and Mary Nipper. He was raised in Amarillo, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1977. He then attended the University of Texas in pursuit of a degree in Petroleum Land Management. There, he joined the lifelong brotherhood of Alfa Kappa Psi. Larry returned to Amarillo, where he married his best friend, Holly Conner on August 5, 1989. After the petroleum industry collapsed, Larry set his sights on a career in healthcare. He worked in the auto industry to support his family while pursuing his new career. Larry began his employment in Med-Surg at Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital as a technician, eventually earning his RN license. He worked as a charge nurse in SICU for over 5 years before working in sedation, specials and PACU at BSA. He then began employment at Northwest Texas Hospital in the ER before assisting in the opening of the new NWTH ER at Town Square.

Larry had a passion for caring for others. He devoted himself to his nursing career and enjoyed caring for each of his patients. He also loved the people he worked with as family. He enjoyed teaching those new to the profession and many looked to him as a role-model and even father figure. Most of all, he loved his family. He spent as much time as possible taking camping and fishing trips with his family and enjoyed gardening in his yard and relaxing next to his chiminea. The 3 most important things Larry will be remembered for are his love of his Lord, his love of his family and his love of his profession.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Holly Nipper; son, Joshua Nipper and wife Bethany; daughter, Emily Nipper; granddaughter, Charlotte Nipper; father, Fred Nipper and wife Brenda, all of Amarillo; his sister, Nancy Nipper-Calcote of Fort Collins, CO; his beloved dogs, Buddy Brother, Matilda, Cosmo Magnus, Bingo Dingo and Lil’ Fella as well as his 5 grandpuppies.

He was proceeded in death by his mother, Mary Wood Nipper and a brother, Steven Wayne Nipper.

In honor of Larry’s personality and spirit, the family requests guests bring their favorite camping chairs to sit.
